The picturesque village of Portesham in Dorset is known for its quaint cottages and beautiful surrounding countryside.

Although the village is small, it has an amazing farm shop that makes a big impact on the area.

Duck’s prides itself on using as many locally sourced items as possible, from locally grown fruit and veg to meat sourced from nearby farms.

As well as lots of brilliant produce in the shop, there is also a deli counter and a cafe, making it a perfect spot for locals, holiday makers and passers-by to enjoy the abundance of great Dorset food.

Duck’s was founded in 2016 by the Worsley family. They moved to the area to run the village pub, The Kings Arms.

When moving to the area, they noticed there wasn’t a local convenience store except a small garage that sat on the site where the Duck’s Farm shop is now.

Shortly after the Worsley family noticed this, the garage shut down, leaving a big gap in the village and an opportunity not to be missed.

This was when the idea of Duck’s became a reality, creating a local farm shop offering everything you need whilst being the best quality around.

The family also wanted to make Duck’s a community hub, a place to meet, catch up and grab a bite to eat.

It is now a thriving place, greeting locals and the people of Dorset every day with a warm welcome.

After making great relationships with local farmers and producers in the area due to running the local pub, the family were able to offer Portesham residents only the freshest, local and great quality food available.

There is always a wide variety of seasonal fruit and veg in store.

Sustainability is important at Duck’s, and by getting local food, it comes as fresh as possible and reduces food miles.

In store, you’ll find loose, dried items to purchase, such as nuts, dried fruit, seeds, oats and so on, reducing the use of single-use plastic.

The meat is bought from the Jurassic Coast and is a favourite among customers, the sausages and bacon in particular.

The staff at Duck’s are all enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the produce and are on hand to answer any queries, giving you the perfect personal service without the use of impersonal and unfriendly self-serve machines.

The deli counter offers an abundance of Dorset cheese and deli items from around the world, such as meats.

You can get the meat sliced to the thickness you desire at the counter meaning you can have the perfect cheese board presentation just the way you like it.

Homemade sausage rolls, pork pies, pasties, quiche and pies are also available to purchase at the deli counter.

There’s so much on offer its hard to choose as they all look delicious.

The cafe is an important part of the community, giving people a place to meet friends and relax. Serving breakfast, lunch and takeaway items, it’s the perfect spot to ‘try before you buy’ the produce that is sold in-store.

On the breakfast menu, you’ll find classics like a cooked breakfast, porridge and eggs benedict, whilst on the lunch menu, you can get items such as sandwiches, soup and jacket potatoes.

Mouthwatering homemade cakes and scones are the perfect accompaniment to a hot drink in the cosy cafe setting.

There are gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available and outside seating for warm weather.

As well as the local fresh produce and deli, there are a number of other items on sale, from Dorset jams and chutneys to locally brewed beers and ciders.

Other convenience items are available, such as refillable cleaning products, washing liquid, soaps and beauty products, plus tinned foods, everyday essentials and store cupboard items for the home.

There is so much on offer and all of the best quality within the local area. You’ll find it hard to leave empty-handed and will love the overall experience with the welcoming and friendly staff.
