Wimborne is a pretty town full of idyllic buildings, independent shops and restaurants. As you walk along the cobbled streets, you’ll notice the breathtaking Wimborne Minster, a 1300-year-old church proudly sitting in the centre.

You’ll hear the peaceful running waters of the River Allen and River Stour flowing through as you wander over the pretty bridges, and you’ll smell the wonderful scents of the local eateries, such as The Wimborne Pig, which invites you in with its tantalising scents and cosy atmosphere.

Here’s what you can look forward to when dining at this warm and welcoming restaurant.

A family-run business owned by mother and son team Kim and Jamie. The Wimborne Pig opened its doors in 2019, surviving some of the toughest years of the hospitality industry during lockdowns and people not wanting to leave their homes.

In the process, it has won multiple awards, proving the amazing quality of the food, friendly service, and romantic atmosphere make it a great place to visit when in Wimborne, regardless of what is going on in the world.

With the dedicated, highly skilled and knowledgable team in the kitchen run by head chef Michael Parry, they create simple yet beautiful tasting menus that change seasonally to take advantage of the fresh produce available throughout the year.

Striving to give guests the very best that Dorset has to offer, the restaurant uses locally sourced produce and fresh ingredients, either grown at the Wimborne Pig allotment or from other parts of the county.

For example, freshly caught fish from Poole Quay and Bad Hand coffee from Bournemouth are used.

The menus offer lots of variety without overwhelming you. If you have any questions about the food, then the very friendly staff are on hand to answer them and proudly chat about where the food is sourced, how it is made and what to recommend off the menu.

The starters are a mix of classic dishes with an added twist that goes the extra mile. One example is the smoked haddock and cheese souffle with whiskey marmalade, which is delicious, packed with flavour and pleasing to the eye.

The portion sizes are generous, and you’ll want to eat everything just to keep the sensational flavour in your mouth.

The main menu includes burgers, belly of pork, fresh Fisherman’s Catch of the Day, sirloin steak and more.

Most of the dishes can also be served gluten-free (speak to a staff member for more information), and vegan/ vegetarian options are available.

🍽️ During the week, a delicious set menu is available. For a very reasonable price, you can choose from two or three courses.

The desserts, just like the rest of the menu, are carefully and lovingly prepared and presented in a beautiful manner that makes you want to take a photo and share it with the world before you devour the sweet flavours and tastes.

An extensive and varied wine list, beers, spirits and soft drinks are available to complement your meal.

The restaurant is set over two floors, from the cosy downstairs that is small yet immediately makes you feel welcome from cosy corners to a romantic window seat, surrounded by rustic and eclectic furnishings and decorations to make you feel at home.

Upstairs is a larger dining room full of charm, soft lighting and cosy vibes. It offers plenty of space for larger dining parties.

During the warmer seasons, you can enjoy time in the pretty garden; sitting here, you’re in quiet surroundings, perfect for enjoying a cold glass of wine/beer, locally crafted Bad Hand coffee or a tasty meal.

No matter the occasion you’re visiting The Wimborne Pig, you can ensure you’ll have an excellent experience, from the freshly prepared, delicious food to the warm, homely environment.

Born and raised in Dorset, I've lived most my entire life in Poole and Bournemouth. I have a deep appreciation for my local area and a passion for travelling. The best hikes for me are in the pouring rain—there's nothing quite like it!
