Locals Can’t Get Enough Of The Artisan Creations At This Bakery In Dorset

There’s nothing better than the smell of freshly baked pastries, bread, and good coffee. Actually, there is—eating those pastries, bread, and drinking that coffee!

Recommended by a friend, BigWigs Bakery did not disappoint. They offer the best bread, pastries, cakes, and coffee.

The real treat for me, however, was their cheese toasties. I don’t say this lightly, but it was the best cheese toastie I’ve ever had. That’s really saying something.

If you don’t live locally, it’s worth a road trip. BigWigs is located in Westbourne but also has three other locations around the BCP area: Bournemouth, Tuckton, and Highcliff.

As you walk into BigWigs, you’re greeted by the lovely aroma of freshly baked treats. The ambience is cosy and welcoming, making it the perfect spot to start your day or enjoy an afternoon treat.

BigWigs has a great selection of doughnuts. They all look so good it’s hard to choose, but you can’t go wrong as they are all delicious.

They proudly serve locally produced Bad Hand Coffee, which is a local favourite and really good.

There are so many different cakes to choose from. The one on the bottom left is called a Cornflake Cookie, and it was absolutely amazing. Crispy and chewy and packed with flavour.

Just so much to choose from! From the rich and decadent Red Velvet Cake to the light and tasty Passionfruit Cheese Cake, there’s something for everyone.

Their filled doughnuts are a must-try. I went for a jam one, but next time, I might venture out and try something different. The chocolate one is calling my name!

If a cake seems a bit too naughty for the morning, why not get a pastry to have with your coffee? Their buttery croissants and flaky pain au chocolat are perfect for a lighter treat.

There’s seating available to eat in as well, which is great so you can dig in right away.

The cosy seating area along the back wall is perfect for enjoying your treats and coffee while soaking in the warm, friendly atmosphere.

When it comes to cheese toasties, this is the crème de la crème. It was the best toastie I’ve ever had. It’s called a Monsieur Croques.

Be warned, it’s really filling—I was ready for a nap after eating it! So worth it, though.

They also offer smoothies and hot food. I’ve heard good things about the Brisket Burger as well.

And last but not least, they have pies and sausage rolls. We got a sausage roll for my son and he was really happy with it.

Overall, this is a bakery worth visiting. They have four locations:

  • Bournemouth
  • Westbourne
  • Tuckton
  • Highcliff

All locations are open 7 days a week, usually from 8:30 AM to 4 PM, except Sundays when they close at 3 PM.

To see more of what they offer, check out their Instagram or head to the BigWigs website.

Born and raised in Dorset, I've lived most my entire life in Poole and Bournemouth. I have a deep appreciation for my local area and a passion for travelling. The best hikes for me are in the pouring rain—there's nothing quite like it!
