If you’re looking for a riverside spot in Dorset where good food meets a relaxed atmosphere, then Riverside at the Coventry Arms in Corfe Mullen might be just the place.

Set right on the banks of the River Stour, this welcoming pub-restaurant has a little bit of everything. From hearty British dishes, a huge landscaped garden, and views you’ll want to sit and soak up for hours.

Let’s start with the approach. The building itself has all the charm you’d hope for, whitewashed walls, hanging baskets and wooden benches out front.

It’s the kind of place you instantly feel drawn to step inside.

Once indoors, the modern dining space has a bright, airy feel with bold wall designs and skylights flooding the room with light.

If you prefer a cosy corner, you’ll find colourful armchairs and exposed brickwork giving a playful, eclectic twist. It’s a space that feels both homely and fun.

But for many, the star of the show is the garden.

It’s huge, dotted with wicker seating, red umbrellas, twinkling lights, and even a fire pit for cooler evenings.

Tucked-away areas mean you can find a quiet table, whether you’re out with family, friends or four-legged companions.

Dogs are welcome and well looked after here.

🎉 Highlight: There are often run events throughout the year, from live music to themed evenings – so keep an eye on their socials to see what’s coming up.

Follow the decking and you’ll come to seats right on the riverbank.

Swing chairs and tables overlook the clear water, shaded by willows. No one can get tired of that view.

Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the food.

Riverside at the Coventry Arms is known for its modern British menu, with seasonal dishes that change regularly.

Sundays are extra special. Their roasts are piled high with tender cuts of meat, golden potatoes, and fluffy Yorkshire puds. Now that’s a portion.

Another favourite is the slow-cooked pork belly, rich and crispy on top, served with creamy mash and gravy.

Or you could stick with a pub classic, beer-battered fish and chips with crushed peas and tartare sauce.

Pair your meal with a glass of wine or a local ale, and if the sun’s out, take it to the riverside terrace for the most relaxing pint in Wimborne.

Kids are well catered for with their own menu and seasonal “kids eat free” offers during the holidays. Vegan choices are available too, so everyone is included.

It’s more than just a place to eat, it’s a riverside retreat that feels like a hidden corner of Dorset.

Whether you’re after a lazy lunch, a lively Sunday roast, or simply a glass of wine with the sound of water flowing past, this spot is worth adding to your list.

Born and raised in Dorset, I've lived most my entire life in Poole and Bournemouth. I have a deep appreciation for my local area and a passion for travelling. The best hikes for me are in the pouring rain—there's nothing quite like it!
