Camping season is always a great time of year. The opportunity to gather your loved ones, pack the car up and enjoy an adventure outside for a few days.
Children love the experience of sleeping in a tent and adults love to gather around the fire talking under the stars.
One of the best campsites Dorset has to offer is Eweleaze.
It’s not just a campsite, it’s a mini festival but without the overcrowding and high price tag.
With lots of activities to do with the children, wellbeing areas and a private onsite beach, what’s not to love?
Here’s what to expect at Eweleaze Campsite in Dorset.
The tent-only campsite is only open for a limited time throughout the year, opening in July and closing at the end of August (please note these times may change).
However, that doesn’t stop campers from getting the best experience when visiting.
When driving down to the site you’ll get panoramic views of the sea and views of Portland in the distance. Its an amazing sight and instantly gets you in the camping mood.
There are several fields to choose from and lots of areas to pitch up. Children will also have lots of space to play without disturbing people.
There are no set pitches, so you can camp in groups close to each other and set up an area just for yourselves.
Eweleaze does ask that you stay at least 6m away from neighbouring tents that aren’t in your party. Dogs are welcome.
You’re allowed to park your car next to your tent. However, if you’re on the Beach or Point Fields, then you’re not allowed to leave your car with the tent, although you are allowed to bring your car down for one hour at the start and end of your visit to pack and unpack.
The site is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which means there’s lots of picturesque space for you to enjoy.
There is no music to be played on the site; however, it sets the scene for a calm and relaxing break in the country.
Night times are chilled, and sitting around the fire is a lovely way to bond with loved ones on a summer’s evening.
💡 Don’t miss out on buying Mystical Fire from the onsite shop. Bring your fire to life and watch it burn the colours of the rainbow.
There are lots of facilities for campers to use, including flushing toilets, outside showers, warm private showers and washing-up stations.
There is also a laundry service and wifi.
The bonus of the campsite is the private beach. It is a stone beach so it’s advised to wear appropriate footwear.
There is a raft in the sea for campers to swim out to and jump off; however, the beach has no lifeguard, so remember to take care when swimming and do so at your own risk.
For use of the campers, there is also a sauna and Turkish bath.
Please note: The stairs leading down to the beach are steep. If using a pushchair or beach trolley, you will have to carry it down the stairs and will struggle to push/pull when at the bottom.
Another amazing feature that makes Eweleaze stand out from the crowd is the food court.
An abundance of food trucks and huts are available. You won’t even have to worry about cooking and washing up when you see what’s on offer.
Places to eat include a bakery, hog roast, chargrill BBQ, fish bar, veg box, crepes, chips, pies, ice cream and more.
A large bar can also be found serving lots of alcoholic beverages. Picnic tables are placed outside the bar and food areas and add to the festival vibe.
An onsite shop also offers lots of local produce, alcoholic drinks, chilled food, sweet treats and more.
Toys, kites and beach items can also be purchased.
As well as all of that, an onsite restaurant, Bramley’s Barn is available to dine at and make your trip away more special.
The restaurant has a rustic and charming vibe, serving a selection of evening meals made with local and organic produce.
There are lots of activities for children to do, they’ll never be able to say ‘I’m bored’ with what’s on offer.
Just a few examples are crafts, a haybale play barn, hair braiding, a sandpit, a circus school, a pottery shed, and so much more!
Adult crafts and classes are also on offer, and an activity board will display the opportunities on arrival.
The wellbeing area is a haven in a beautiful and tranquil spot.
Yoga classes, breathwork, massage treatments and so on are available for you to get in touch with your spiritual side and look after your mind, body and spirit.
Please note: Some of the additional activities charge a fee.
If you want to leave the campsite there are a number of places within the local area offering lots to do in the way of hikes, family activities and beauty spots to explore.
Places close by include Weymouth, Portland, Lulworth Cove, and Dorchester.
Country pubs are also around the area, such as The Smugglers Inn in Osmington Mils.
💡 Look out for the Osmington White Horse, a famous landmark of Dorset. You’ll notice it when driving out of the campsite.
If camping isn’t your cup of tea or you’d like to visit the area all year around, then Eweleaze Farm has a number of holiday cottages available to rent. Shortlake Cottage, The Cartshed and The Old Lookout.
This campsite is one of the best places for a break away with the family. Camping is such a fun activity that people of all ages can enjoy.
Eweleaze, in particular, offers so much in the way of entertainment but still has a quiet and secluded feel.
Lots of memories are ready to be made when spending some downtime at Eweleaze Farm.
