Everyone visits Corfe Castle naturally to see the old remains of the castle itself. But have you ever visited the Corfe Castle Model Village?
Not too far from the real castle, you can find a small alley guarded by lifesize civil war soldiers leading to the beautiful and quaint model village.
The courtyard dates back to the 17th century and is home to the Courtyard Cafe. The cafe prides itself on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and serving delicious homemade food.
Selling Dorset cream teas, light lunches such as sandwiches, quiche and soup, you’ll find it hard to resist.
The cafe also has a licence to sell alcohol, so why not sit in the sun and enjoy a glass of wine or a freshly ground cup of coffee?
You pay a fee to enter the model village and gardens, and it’s a very reasonable price.
As of writing this, the entry fee is:
- Adults £4.50
- Children £3.20
- Family £14.00
Making it an inexpensive day out with the family.
You enter via the gift shop, which sells lots of exciting souvenirs and objects related to the area.
After paying your fee, you are free to roam the acre of land and admire the beautiful gardens that surround it.
Corfe Castle sits proudly in the background, making the experience more magical.
There is also seating for you to enjoy food and drink from the cafe, which gives you a beautiful backdrop of the gardens and the Purbeck hills.
As well as a rainbow of blooming flowers all over the gardens, it is also home to lots of wildlife. It is perfect for birdwatchers as there is a bird feeding station where a host of birds, such as swallows, swifts, and pheasants, have been spotted.
Along with the flowers and the wildlife, you and the family can have a magical adventure exploring the fairy garden.
There is also a great selection of garden games to play, such as Giant Jenga and Connect 4.
Walking around the model village will transport you back in time.
The model represents what the village of Corfe Castle would have looked like in 1646 before Oliver Cromwell blew it up.
If you stand at the right angle, you can compare the model castle, which shows it as it would have been in one piece, with the remains of the real castle in the background.

It has so much to offer and is a cheap but entertaining day out.
