The Isle of Portland, with its wild and natural surroundings, sea views that go on for miles, and local attractions, make it a wonderful place to go.

Starting in the Portland Bill car park, the hike can take around 1hr 19min and is 5.5km long.

Although, because of the stunning views you’ll notice, this walk may take you longer as you stop and admire the vast ocean and countryside.

Along the way, you’ll spot lots of beautiful nautical landmarks, buildings and rowing boats.

Dogs are welcome on leads, and this route is popular for tourists, birding, running, and hiking.

Portland Bill is a famous landmark of Dorset and sits proudly at 41 metres tall on the southern point of Portland.

Lighthouses are used for guiding vessels through hazardous waters and represent safety making them popular for tourists and photographers.

Portland Bill visitor centre is a fun place to visit, offering informative maritime displays and telling you the history of Portland Bill.

You can even climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse and visit the small shop.

During your walk, you’ll come across beautiful views of the sea and different angles of the lighthouse in the distance.

Lots of coastal plants and wildlife provide a pretty backdrop and great photo opportunities.

You’ll come across another lighthouse during your walk; this one may be lesser known than Portland Bill but is, in fact, the first lighthouse of Portland, dating back as far as 1716.

Today, it is a holiday home that offers amazing views and is a beautiful building to see during your hike.

Part of the walk takes you along the cliff edge, take care and act sensible whilst near the cliff. Sometimes, the sea in this area can be very rough and it can be windy.

However, don’t let the elements put you off, as the beauty that you see along the way will take your breath away.

Natural, rural and rugged spots make Portland a special place to spend time.

Remains of the disused quarry are located near the sea and add interest to your walk.

This walk offers lots of wildlife and is a great spot for bird-watching. You’ll see Northern Wheatears, Guillemots and maybe even a Puffin.

Horses can be found grazing in the country fields, and if you’re very lucky, you may see a Sea Lion in the water.

The paths vary from rocky, dirt and pavement. Some of the circular goes across farmland, so you may be close to cattle and boggy patches; take care and appropriate footwear is advised but not essential.

If you’re a fan of ocean views and nautical sights, then this walk is perfect. An easy trail that is perfect for the whole family, with great points of interest and lots of flora and fauna.
