The Seaglass Olympics: Competitive Beachcombing at Charmouth

Seaglass is glass that has been discarded and, for various reasons, has been washed out to sea.

It is then physically weathered by the ocean and gets washed to the shore. Some pieces are up to 100 years old and more and look like beautiful frosted gems.

It’s always fun to find a piece and imagine where it came from. Is it from shipwrecks and pirates, or did it wash up from a far-off land? Who knows?

Today, it’s a fun hobby for many, and the pieces can be collected, made into jewellery or used for arts and crafts.

Charmouth Beach, in particular, is a popular spot for sea glass and fossils. Many travel from afar just to collect the treasure from this magnificent beach.

Here is an enjoyable video showing us just how easy it is to collect at Charmouth and what fun you can have whilst doing so.

Enjoy!
