Tucked Away In A Cobbled Courtyard, This Little Dorset Restaurant Serves Some Of The Best Paella You’ll Ever Taste

Tucked away in the historic cobblestone courtyard of Lyme Regis’ Town Mill, you’ll find Strawberry Tree—a Spanish restaurant, shop and garden bar that feels like a little slice of Andalusia right here in Dorset.

From the outside, it looks inviting with its blue sign and rustic stone walls.

Step inside, and the atmosphere instantly wraps around you: whitewashed walls, low wooden beams, soft lighting, and the hum of happy chatter.

Food here is all about sharing. Tapas is at the heart of the menu, those small plates made for passing around the table while sipping wine and catching up with friends.

Think Manchego cheese with quince, pan-fried goat’s cheese with honey, olives, jamón and all the good things you’d expect from a proper Spanish table.

If paella is your thing, you’ll be licking your lips and scraping every last bit out of the pan. The seafood version, golden with saffron and loaded with prawns, is a real showstopper.

Lunchtimes are lighter with tapas and coffee, while evenings are when the full menu comes out to play—paired with Spanish wines, sherries, cocktails and mocktails.

The wine list alone is enough to keep you lingering longer.

💡 They’re open Thursday through Monday and even welcome dogs at lunchtime.

But it’s not just about sitting down to eat. Strawberry Tree is also known for its brilliant cookery classes.

These aren’t stiff “how-to” lessons, but fun, hands-on sessions where you roll up your sleeves, laugh, learn, and of course, eat.

From seafood paella to Andalusian tapas, you’ll end up sharing what you’ve made with the group before taking the rest home.

And when the sun is out? The hidden garden is the place to be. String lights, leafy walls and round green tables make it the sort of spot you stumble across and never want to leave.

By day, it’s a peaceful lunch setting, by night it transforms into a buzzing little bar.

At the front of the restaurant, you’ll also find their small but mighty shop, brimming with Spanish imports and foodie treasures, including wines, crisps, olive oils, spices, and treats that you’ll want to stock up on.

Whether you’re coming for dinner, a glass of wine, a cooking class or just a browse through the shop, Strawberry Tree has a way of making you feel at home.
