When visiting the Isle of Purbeck, you’re met with beautiful countryside and beaches, making it a fantastic place to visit.

Quite often, on days out or breaks away, you will want to try out the local places to eat and drink. It can be hard to choose where to go and where will provide tasty food with a warm welcome.

Featured in The Times – The 49 Best Bakeries, The Italian Bakery is a lovely place to visit if you’re a lover of handmade baked goods that are sure to get you excited with the wide range on offer.

Whether you want freshly baked bread or a sweet mid-afternoon treat, The Italian Bakery has it all.

There are two Italian bakeries within the Purbecks; the first is nestled within the historic town of Wareham (considered the gateway of the Purbecks), whilst the second is in the coastal town of Swanage.

They each offer good quality food handmade by experienced bakers, cake makers and pastry chefs who are passionate about what they do.

Every customer is important to the bakery and they pride themselves on providing outstanding customer service.

Only using the best quality ingredients on offer and as organic and locally sourced as possible, the bakers work overnight to provide customers with the best Italian bread.

When visiting, you’ll find classic breads such as multiseed, sourdough, ciabatta and so on.

The bakers also provide a ‘Bakers bread of the day’, which are more unique flavours that work excellently together and are a favourite among customers; flavours include chilli and smoked cheddar, prune and walnut and Italian herbs and olives.

While both bakeries mostly serve the same items, the Swanage bakery provides inside seating and offers customers a menu of all-day breakfasts, omelettes, salad bowls and more.

Swanage also has an alcohol licence so you can enjoy a cold glass of wine or beer during your lunch.

Both bakeries offer sandwiches, wraps, hot/cold drinks and light bites. Sausage rolls, pasties, cheese straws and other delicious pastry items are also in store.

In the Wareham branch, a lunch-to-go service gives you the opportunity to enjoy warm Neapolitan style pizzettes available to take away and enjoy on your lunch break or sitting along the riverbank overlooking the river Frome.

You’ll find amazing options on the menu, including jam doughnuts, Belgian buns, raspberry drizzle cake (pictured above), brownies and more.

The options are irresistible, and it may be hard to choose from the tasty selections.

Seasonal options are also a highlight, from spooky Halloween cakes to mint chocolate chip hot cross buns and cute bunny cakes during easter.

🥕 Gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options are available in the store.
