Do you ever go to a new restaurant that you happen to be recommended to by a friend? Maybe you happen just to walk past it one day and decide to try it out, and then when you do try it out, you think, ‘How did I not know about this place sooner?’ The food is just so good. Well, that actually just happened to me.

I came across a little restaurant in Bournemouth called Uncle Glenn’s, a Caribbean restaurant that’s been open for two years, and I can’t believe that I didn’t know about it sooner.

Uncle Glenn’s was started by a woman known as “Mumma” and her family. Mumma has perfected her delicious home-cooked food and special marinade recipe.

Uncle Glenn’s seems like an unassuming restaurant, something you could easily walk past and not even know it was there.

Even when you go inside, it’s not a fancy restaurant; it just has a no-frills cafe vibe to it, but with a Caribbean twist.

But don’t let the unassuming appearance fool you—their food is delicious! Full of flavour, it does not disappoint.

They have lots to choose from on their Caribbean menu.

I tried Uncle Glenn’s All-In Tasty Meat Combo Box, and let me tell you, it was packed with flavour. The box comes with Rice and peas, plantain, the most delicious jerk chicken, flavoursome tender goat curry, plus a side of salad and coleslaw.

Each bite is bursting with authentic Caribbean flavours. My taste buds were literally transported straight to the islands.

There are so many other dishes to try, like the MunchBox. It’s a combo on a tray with jerk wings, plantain, mac and cheese, goat curry, and a dumpling. It looks just as delicious as it sounds.

You’ll also want to try the dumplings. They go well with any meal and are absolutely delicious.

Oh, and not to mention the plantain. They are so good as well. This is something I highly recommend you try out.

When I was about to pay my bill, I spotted some cake—Mumma’s mouth-watering homemade plantain and banana cake.

I decided to get some, and wow, it was really delicious. Definitely worth trying if you want to taste some authentic Caribbean cake.

If you fancy a drink, they serve Caribbean options like Red Stripe.

They also serve Mumma’s special rum punch, which I’ve heard good things about.

Uncle Glenn’s is a hidden gem restaurant that you definitely need to check out. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Caribbean food or trying it for the first time, Uncle Glenn’s won’t disappoint.

You can find Uncle Glenn’s at 481 Christchurch Rd, Boscombe, Bournemouth BH1 4AD.

Born and raised in Dorset, I've lived most my entire life in Poole and Bournemouth. I have a deep appreciation for my local area and a passion for travelling. The best hikes for me are in the pouring rain—there's nothing quite like it!
