Blue Pool is a hidden gem in the Wareham area of Dorset and is a must if you’re looking for an easy walk. This route is a 3.1km circular trail and takes around 50 minutes to complete.
It’s best visited between April – October; however, The Blue Pool is open all year around and there is an entry fee.
This walk promises you lots of spectacular views, interesting wildlife and a lovely tea room to finish off with a refreshing drink and a snack.
Here’s what to expect when hiking the Blue Pool circular.
Dating as far back as the 17th century, The Blue Pool was originally a hand-quarried clay pit; the Purbeck clay was used to make ceramics such as cups and plates.
Later in the 19th century, the quarry was abandoned and filled up with rainwater. The remnants of the clay in the water and the sun give the pool lots of varied colours depending on the weather and lighting.
In 1935, The Blue Pool became a tourist attraction and now is a natural place of beauty for people to enjoy.

There are a number of ways you can walk around The Blue Pool, each offering amazing views and scenery.
There is free parking, and the area is dog-friendly. Please be mindful as there is lots of wildlife, and dogs will need to be on a lead.
Cute fairy doors are dotted around the area to create a fun adventure for any little people joining you.
The land is 30 acres and has lots of places to stop for a rest and to admire the pretty pool shimmering in the light.
What makes this walk fun is the wildlife you’ll see along the way. Peacocks, in particular, wander around the area.
Their beautiful feathers can sometimes be found when exploring, and you’ll spot them in some of the most unlikely places. Woodpeckers, dragonflies and buzzards can also be spotted.
This trail is best off in dry weather, as some of the paths can get muddy. If you prefer a cooler, wetter hike remember to wear appropriate shoes for getting dirty.
Some of the views are like none other in Dorset. This trail, being an easy hike, can be enjoyed by all the family.
There’s even a rope bridge to walk across, giving you more amazing views and is a fun extra to your day out.
