Studland is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Dorset and offers lots in the way of stunning vistas and surrounding countryside.
It was also a regular place for the Bankes family to visit. A prominent family in Dorset for over 400 years, owning large amounts of land such as Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy.
They would often spend lots of time at their beach house and riding their horses around the Purbecks.
Today, the area is a popular tourist spot as well as a favourite among the locals, from visiting the gorgeous beach, hikes to Old Harry Rocks and pretty spots to grab a cup of coffee, such as The Sandy Salt Pig located at Middle Beach.
It is also here that you will find a beautiful second-hand book shop owned by the National Trust.
You can find the shop next to the Middle Beach car park, and instantly the beauty of the small and charming thatched building and the quiet surroundings immediately calms you.
Forget about fast-paced living, a trip to this shop will put a smile on your face.
The building was originally home to Oliver Long and his 14-year-old son William in 1911.
They were the groom and stable boy to the Bankes family and would have stayed here when their service was needed.
Their job was to keep the horses well groomed, exercised, keep the harnesses cleaned, and horses well looked after.
Today, you can step into the cosy cottage and explore the abundance of second-hand books.
From fiction, non-fiction and children’s books.
Delve into other worlds and explore the endless possibilities when finding your next bedtime read.
Memorabilia and little decorations are on display in homage to the cottages’ past, and photographs show the Bankes family during their time on the beach and in Studland.
