If you’re looking for something engaging and fun for the children that will ignite their imaginations, then Blackmarsh Farm in Sherborne is a must.
In today’s society, it is often hard to get children outside and running free; screen time can often overrule children wanting to get out and explore.
With the risk of sounding old, being outside, playing and making friends is one of the best parts of childhood.
Blackmarsh is ready for your child to have fun and explore, offering a shop, cafe, and a fun, exciting playground.
They’re also climbing frame specialists, selling outdoor play equipment for commercial and residential use.
For just £5 per child you’re welcome to spend the whole day on this delightful farm where their motto is ‘Celebrating nature, the outdoors, muddy boots and growing wild.’
Blackmarsh is a working dairy farm. However, the farm is not open to the public. Other areas, such as the barns and grounds, are open for visitors to enjoy.
Open Monday to Saturday, 9:30am – 5:00pm, giving you lots of time at the farm and well worth every penny.
The Orchard play area is home to a selection of climbing frames, in-ground trampolines, forts, playhouses, sandpits and more.
Parents can bring their children along and spend as long as they like in the brilliant outdoor wonderland built with little people in mind.
A small go-kart track can also be found; there’s nothing children and toddlers love more than pretending to drive; they’ll love whizzing around the track on the go-carts and ridealongs.
Frequent visitors can get a play pass for £20 per child, giving you unlimited access to the play area and discounts on events such as Easter egg trails, Halloween activities, pumpkin picking and Christmas craft days.
💡 Note: The play pass runs through to September.
Although there are no animals on the farm, there are some resident chickens that go by the names of Boris, Roxanne, Edith and Nancy; they can be found wandering around the play area.
They’re friendly, however its advised not to try and touch them or get too close.
During certain times of the year, visitors can challenge themselves to the Maize Maze.
Everyone will love trying to find their way out of this huge maze, and you’ll leave with a sense of achievement and wear a big smile after completing it.
The maze is open during the summer and during the spooky Halloween season.
The cafe has a relaxed vibe with rustic and natural surroundings adding to the farmyard atmosphere.
With a fantastic garden kitchen offering fresh produce grown on the farm, you don’t get much fresher than that!
With a selection of light bites, brunches and lunches, you’ll find delicious dishes such as avocado toast, quiche, jacket potatoes, salad bowls and more.
The children’s menu will satisfy even picky eaters and include pizzas, beans on toast and a lunch bag meal deal.
The farm does request that only food bought in the cafe is consumed, with that in mind the food on offer is hard to resist so you won’t mind buying lunch there.
The cafe supplies sweet treats to satisfy anyone looking for a cheeky dessert or even just a slice of cake and a coffee.
The cakes are huge and delicious. Flavours such as orange and passionfruit, salted caramel sponge and chocolate cake are homemade and fresh for you to devour.
There is a great outside area for parents to enjoy whilst the children play with lots of shade.
Well behaved dogs on a lead are welcome on site also.
The shop sells a fantastic mix of homewares, toys, books and fresh produce such as carrots, courgettes, spring onions and more.
With something guaranteed to interest everyone, you’ll find it hard to leave empty-handed.
You’ll find decorative pieces such as bowls and jugs, placemats, greeting cards made by local artists and lots of beautiful items to treat yourself or buy as a gift.
