The 80’s and 90’s were peak years for video games. Memories of playing Sonic the Hedgehog on the Mastersystem or Mario All-Stars on the Super Nintendo are fondly remembered as great childhood memories.
Fast forward to today, and you can feel a sense of nostalgia as you enter the Retrocave, a place abundant in retro video games, toys, board games and more.
Here’s what to expect at the best place for gamers in Dorset.
Situated along Ashley Road in Poole, the cafe and retro games shop hosts over 350 games for visitors to play, giving you lots of choices and the option to switch the games as many times as you like.
You can be playing Pacman one minute and Donkey Kong the next. The endless list of games offers you lots of variety.
The very friendly staff know their stuff when it comes to games and are always up for a chat during your visit.
The games room hosts 15 consoles from Playstation, Sega Megadrive, Gamecube, Nintendo 64, Xbox, Super Nintendo and more.
The games are located close to the consoles, showing you what is on offer. Age 18+ games are locked away and can be played on request to ensure age-appropriate games are used.
All the classics can be found, such as Mario Kart, The Sims, James Bond Golden Eye, Final Fantasy, Tony Hawk Skateboarding, Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider, and so much more.
Memories will be unlocked as soon as you click the game into place and wait for it to load.
What makes the Retrocave a great place to visit is the fact that it is fun for all ages; adults will love the memories whilst showing their children the ‘old school’ way to the game.
If you’re interested in less screen time and want to get fully immersed in a board or card game then there is plenty of opportunity to get involved.
From Warhammer, Lord of the Rings, Pokemon and Star Wars, it’s the perfect spot to meet like-minded people and enjoy doing what you love.
Exploring the Retrocave can be fun once you spot the abundance of toys from yesteryear. Polly Pockets, My Little Pony, Action Man and Barbie are just a few items you’ll find.
Also, movie-related action figures and memorabilia are on offer.
You can also visit the Retrocave for a coffee or a bite to eat. You’re warmly welcome to try the full and delicious menu.
You’ll find toasties, wraps, breakfasts, burgers, hot dogs and lots of tasty sides and desserts for you to enjoy whilst your gaming, before/after your session or in passing.
A variety of events are held throughout the year, which you can keep on track of by checking out the Facebook page or checking out the website here.
